Learning to Serve and Bounce a Ball

In this paper we investigate learning the tasks of ball serving and ball bouncing. These tasks display characteristics which are common in a variety of motor skills. To learn the required motor skills for these tasks the robot uses Relative Entropy Policy Search which is a state of the art method in Policy Search Reinforcement Learning. Our experiments show that REPS does not only converge cons...

The brief resilience scale: assessing the ability to bounce back.

BACKGROUND While resilience has been defined as resistance to illness, adaptation, and thriving, the ability to bounce back or recover from stress is closest to its original meaning. Previous resilience measures assess resources that may promote resilience rather than recovery, resistance, adaptation, or thriving. PURPOSE To test a new brief resilience scale. METHOD The brief resilience sca...

Diffusion or bounce back in relativistic heavy-ion collisions?

The time evolution of pseudorapidity distributions of produced charged hadrons in d+Au collisions at √ sNN = 200 GeV is investigated. Results of a nonequilibrium-statistical Relativistic Diffusion Model with three sources are compared with a macroscopic ”bounce back” model that does not allow for statistical equilibration at large times, but instead leads to motion reversal. When compared to th...

Getting Back to Normal

Recently, the power of cells to restore health is being widely recognized. Autologous T cells are being programmed to target specific antigens expressed by previously lethal leukemias, achieving unprecedented apparent cures. Conversely, regulatory T cells are being tested in type 1 diabetes mellitus in an attempt to re-establish immune tolerance in this condition, with some earlier examples of ...
